Assessment and evaluation remains a challenging tasks for educators and districts. Maybe we’re over complicating things? How can we shift the locus of control over to the learner and allow teachers to foster student growth? This session will share ideas and frameworks that make assessment a celebrated part of learning.

Proposal summary

Purpose & objective

This session will provide background and research behind new approaches to assessment. We'll examine the current paradigms and consider their effectiveness with specific regards to student learning. We'll explore strategies and formats to make a shift to more student-centered assessments. Participants will leave with specific strategies using tools like evernote, a variety of audio tools and rich assessment opportunities that take advantage of free and widely available tools.

How do you define learning? (interactive question using Answer Garden) followed by small group discussion -15 minutes
Presentation of research and key resources to go deeper -5 minutes

Self/Peer Assessment (strategies and ideas) 10 minutes

Model (examples and mindsets to model self-assessment) 10 minutes
