Looking for educational apps that can be accessed from any platform? The App Smackdown is an interactive, fast-paced, competition, highlighting the best technology tools across all content areas and grade levels. Learn about many different kinds of apps and how to instantly integrate them into the classroom.

Proposal summary

Purpose & objective

The purpose of this workshop is for participants to come away with several different examples of educational apps and how to showcase them in their classroom. We will also provide them with a list of links to each of these apps as well as websites and resources for mobile learning.
 
The theme of every ISTE event involves transforming education with technology. One way that teachers are doing is this is through utilizing mobile devices in their classroom. The apps featured in this session will all be transformational - meaning they will allow students/teachers to performs new tasks. shared in this session will apply across multiple content areas and grade levels. Therefore a teacher will leave this session with apps that they can directly use in the their classrooms for student success.

Participants will develop and introductory knowledge of a variety of apps which can be used across any grade level

Participants will be presented with potential ideas to integrate the new apps into a student-centered environment

Participants will have an opportunity to select which tools are the most effective in an educational environment.

Outline

Introduction of App Smackdown (5 Minutes)
- Introduction of each presenter
- Explanation of the rules

Rules:
Each presenter has 2 minutes to demonstrate one educational app or program. There will be 4 different rounds and at the end, the audience will select the winner.

Round 1 App Smackdown (12 Minutes)
Each presenter shares 1 educational app which will work across all devices, and can be easily integrated into any grade level/subject.

Round 2 App Smackdown (10-12 Minutes)
Each presenter shares 1 educational app which will work across all devices, and can be easily integrated into any grade level/subject.

Round 3 App Smackdown (10-12 Minutes)
Each presenter shares 1 educational app which will work across all devices, and can be easily integrated into any grade level/subject.

Round 4 App Smackdown (10-12 Minutes)
Each presenter shares 1 educational app which will work across all devices, and can be easily integrated into any grade level/subject.

Voting - Choose The App Expert (3 minutes)
Participants use a crowd sourcing platform like PollEverywhere or Kahoot! to select the winner of the content.
