Proposal summary

Purpose & objective

The purpose of our workshop is to help attendees acquire the necessary skills to use technology to engage students, to promote a learner-driven environment and to foster multiple pathways for students to demonstrate their learning. Therefore, attendees will not only learn key skills or the "how", but we will also underscore the supporting research and provide pathways where they can continue to develop these skills so that they understand the "why". In this workshop experience, attendees will learn how to craft engaging personalized learning experiences that allow each student to go deep, develop confidence and understand what is needed to reach and exceed standards. It is essential to us that our participants leave our workshop feeling confident that they may take the toolbox and ideas that we have given them to create fun, engaging and innovative learning experiences for their students, to provide data for continual improvement and to develop an efficient workflow, especially for feedback. On the operational side, this workshop will provide attendees with an understanding of how to develop an optimal workflow where working smarter, not harder is the key. For example, we will teach attendees how to use a simple app like Class Dojo and use it not for class management but instead to embed your classroom standards and objectives so that there is clear communication and feedback on a student's development along a learning pathway. Our intent is to frame these tools and objectives within the framework of an academic year, beginning with the end in mind, we will provide a road map to reaching those objectives.
