Proposal summary

Purpose & objective

The overall goal of this panel session is to provide participants with the skills necessary to find funding for projects that provide hardware, technology embedded professional development, or the means to implement a technology program in their organizations, districts, schools, or classrooms. Grants are an excellent vehicle for this, and the panel objectives include: 1) participants learn about the keys to great grants; 2) participants will discuss the top ten questions reviewers ask when funding proposals; and 3) participants will visit a web site designed for funding technology initiatives and identify potential funding sources

The objectives will be achieved by initially discussing what are the specific elements that make a grant fundable and great (20 minutes). The session will then focus on the various components normally requested by funding organizations and how grant reviewers evaluate the components (20 minutes). Each participant will be provided with a listing of Internet resources and access to a Web site specifically designed for this session (10 minutes). Finally, participants will be engaged in discussing potential funding sources and ample time will be provided for questions (10 minutes).

Supporting research

Grant writing is not really a researched topic, but all of us agree that increased and sustained funding to improve access to technology is essential and critical to school improvement.
