Sharif El-Mekki, CENTER FOR BLACK EDUCATOR DEVELOPMENT

Sharif El-Mekki is the principal at Philadelphia’s Mastery Charter School-Shoemaker Campus, a neighborhood public charter that serves almost 800 students in grades 7-12. His team has been recognized by President Barack Obama and Oprah Winfrey, and earned the prestigious EPIC award from New Leaders for three consecutive years as one of the top three schools in the country for accelerating student achievement levels. El-Mekki founded The Fellowship – Black Male Educators for Social Justice and is the director of The Center for Black Educator Development, which focuses on supporting current and aspiring Black male educators in the Philadelphia area and beyond. He also serves on the Mayor’s Commission on African American Males and completed two years as one of former Secretary of Education Arne Duncan’s three Principal Ambassadors.
