Hooking students from the first day of school is vital for a successful year. Come see various activities you can use to engage and empower students, building a collaborative classroom community from the moment they arrive.

The purpose of this poster session is to provide participants with examples to engage elementary learners from day one. Several learning experiences will be shared for teachers to make their own for their classrooms. Participants will be able to create goal setting activities, getting to know you activities, and various learning experiences to build a classroom community.
Various G Suite tools for communication and collaboration will be shared such as Google Slides, Google Sites, and Google Draw. All lessons will be available to participants who stop at this poster session in a Google Site.
Examples include a play doh activity, designing visual learning selfies, questions to start your school day, Flipgrid intros, Appreciation/Apology/and A Ha routine, Intro to Sketchnoting, Vision Boards, etc. All activities will be shared and educators can start their year with new freshly created ideas.

Rayna Freedman is a 5th grade teacher at the Jordan/Jackson Elementary School in Mansfield, MA. She has taught grades 3-5 and is an ITS. She is working on her doctorate through Northeastern. Rayna is president of MassCUE. She is a BrainPOP certified educator, Flipgrid Ambassador, and Fablevision Ambassador. Rayna has presented for ISTE, Ed Tech Teacher, Tech and Learning, MassCUE, MASCD, Medfield DLD, and BLC. Ms. Freedman is published in Early Childhood Education Today, Building Teachers: A Constructivist Approach to Introducing Education 2nd edition and Fundamentals of Early Childhood Education. She is a level 2 Google Certified Educator.
