Fostering empathy and global awareness among learners is a critical responsibility of today's educators. By harnessing the power of Google’s Geo Tools, educators can engage students with authentic learning experiences to develop global awareness. Participants will take away Google Geo Tools implementation strategies spanning K-12 learners.

Proposal summary

Purpose & objective

Purpose: Join a Google Certified Innovator for a hands on learning experience guiding educators through the Google Geo Tools to learn strategies for implementing them across content areas while fostering empathy and global awareness. Activities will be shared for various Google Geo Tools, including, but not limited to, Google Earth, My Maps, and Tour Builder. Participants will walk away with implementation strategies, example activities, and a proficient understanding of how Google Geo Tools can be leveraged to foster global awareness.

Objectives:
1. Participants will be able to identify and define Google Geo Tools as an instructional tool to engage student learners.
2. Participants will be able to experience and reflect upon authentic Google Geo Tool instructional strategies and activities that span a variety of content areas and grade levels.
3. Participants will be able to connect Google Geo Tool instructional strategies with opportunities to foster empathy and global awareness within student learners.

10 mins Welcome & Introduction, Roll the Dice Activity

10 mins: Tour of Google Earth Features (Magnifying Glass, Hoovering, Ruler, Bookmarking, Voyager, etc)

5 mins: Explore Google Earth Features

5 mins: Strategies for Google Earth in the Classroom

10 mins: Introduce and Tour My Maps (Manipulating the Maps, Adding Content, Building Content, Customizing Pins, etc)

10 mins: Create an Atlas with My Maps

5 mins: Strategies for My Maps in the Classroom

5 mins: Debrief & Thank You
