Sophia Mendoza is a proud alumni of the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) -- the nation’s 2nd largest school district -- where she has served in multiple capacities from a bilingual teacher, coordinator, assistant principal and a principal over the course of her nearly 21-year career with the District. Currently, she serves as director of the Instructional Technology Initiative (ITI), overseeing the implementation of computer science education and digital citizenship programs across the 400 schools that comprise LAUSD. Through this role, Ms. Mendoza supports LAUSD educators in building leadership capacity and cultivating learners who are ready for a growing digital world. Her work has been recognized by the Center for Digital Education and the Learning Counsel. She was recently named a NextGeneration Leader by EdScoop and CoSN, and a 2018 Most Influential People in EdTech by Tech & Learning, an honor that recognizes her work in establishing strategic partnerships and programs that expand instructional technology opportunities for all students.
