This entertaining and interactive session will showcase a wide variety of classroom tools as teams create ideas on the fly from the "Ed Tech Generator." Audience members will also be able to participate and one lucky winner will be selected each round! Come prepared to learn, laugh and lip sync!

Proposal summary

Purpose & objective

The main purpose of this session is to cause educators to get out of their comfort zone and to think differently when it comes to tech integration. We are leading with instruction and content and letting the tech enhance the learning.


First 5 minutes - Framing the challenges
10 minutes - Round 1 - Partner up and submit as the random subject generator picks subject area and age level. Post ideas on the FlipGrid.
5 minutes - 2 other partners are chosen to go agains the presenters. Losing couple has to lip sync a popular duet.
15 minutes - Round 2 - repeat above
15 minutes - Round 3 - repeat above
5 minutes - Closing and reflection

Supporting research

Besides the AMAZING response from this session at ISTE 2018 (it was recorded), the main basis for this session is that learning can be fun, even for adults. Taking risks becomes easier when done in a group and trusted environment. And also, this Edutopia Article I wrote several years ago -

I am in my 11th year with Lubbock-Cooper ISD. I'm starting my sixth year as the Emerging Technology Coordinator. I have had a passion for technology since I was young. I stay on the cutting edge of personal tech as well as seeking out innovative ways to include technology in the classroom. I attended Apple Academy in Cupertino to be Apple Learning Specialist. I am the creator of the very successful event Confluence, a pedagogy and technology conference ( I'm a featured presenter at LearnFest and Technovate. I am an Apple Teacher and Google Certified Educator.

Carl Hooker, HookerTech LLC

Carl Hooker has been a part of a strong educational shift with technology integration during his 21 years in education. As Director of Innovation & Digital Learning at Eanes ISD, he has helped spearhead the program which put one-to-one iPads in the hands of all K-12 students in his 8000-student district. He's also the author of the six-book series titled Mobile Learning Mindset, a guide for teachers, administrators, parents and others to support and embrace mobile learning in our schools. He’s also a keynote speaker and a consultant for multiple school districts across the country.
