Are you interested in personalized learning but aren't sure where to start? Look no further than this session to help get your PL journey started. You will learn the basics of personalized learning, how to apply it to your content area and see examples to get started!

Proposal summary

Purpose & objective

The purpose of this session is to introduce Personalized Learning as defined by my school district to those who may be otherwise unfamiliar.

As a result of attending my sessions, attendees will leave with a basic understanding of Personalized Learning and how it can be applied in their schools or classrooms. Attendees will learn both digital and non-digital ways of personalizing instruction and high engagement strategies. I will be sharing templates that attendees can take and modify to their liking and sample lesson plans of my own in which I have implemented Personalized Learning successfully in the classroom.

Lastly, as evidence of their success attendees will leave with a whole host of resources to support their Personalized Learning journey along with coaching provided by me.

Outline

Introduction: (10 minutes) -- What is personalized learning? Discuss the varied definitions, provide the definition that I use, and the key components of personalized learning.

2 minute turn and talk -- have attendees share with each other if there are already components of personalized learning that they use in their own classrooms. Will use Mentimeter to compile answers from group.

Explanation (20 minutes) -- Discuss specific components of personalized learning, focusing primarily on the instructional practice of playlists and pathways. I will also share engagement strategies that can be integrated into the playlists and pathways and we will demonstrate a few of them.

1 minute check in-- Do attendees have a unit or lesson that they believe could be "personalized" if yes -- what are those lessons?

Explore time (10-20 minutes) -- Provide attendees with time to explore the templates and examples from colleagues provided. I will create and share a Wakelet board that all attendees will be added as collaborators on where resources and lessons can be shared.

Q & A time (10-15 minutes) -- Due to the introductory nature of this session, I would like to provide attendees time to ask questions and get clarification prior to leaving to help set them up for the most success possible!

Karie Frauenhoffer is a 7th Grade Language Arts and Social Studies from Kernersville, North Carolina. She has been an educator for a decade and has spent the past 4 working with her school district's newly created Personalized Learning department. With the move to distance learning selected for the start of the school year, Karie has now taken on a district leadership role within her classroom of assisting with Personalized Learning. She is passionate about edTech and bringing the content to her students.
