In 2010, the Edcamp model was born, giving teachers the power to direct their learning, moving away from the sit-and-get model to one of collaboration and conversation. Come and experience the power of Edcamp. Learn its history and participate in its magic.

Proposal summary

Purpose & objective

Participants will be introduced to the Edcamp model and explore its history and growth.
Participants will learn the impact of the model on the teachers who attend, as demonstrated through the latest data collection.
Participants will experience participant-driven professional learning
They will obtain the tools necessary to organize and host an Edcamp themselves: building a session board, sparking conversations, marketing.
Challenge: Teachers unengaged in their own professional learning due to it being based on "Sit and Get" experiences. The lack of teacher agency makes creating student agency in the classroom all the more challenging.
Tools: All things Google for collaborative session board building and shared notes.

Brief history of the Edcamp movement: tenets and growth
Survey of latest data and ways the model has evolved to meet different needs
Explanation of the process of building an Edcamp
Discussion of strategies for building a session board

Session topic generation from participants
Session Board building by participants

Group discussion of experience of Edcamp conversations and its possible uses for the participants, their schools and districts
