#DigitalCitCulture and Media Literacy is now more important than ever the online/blended classroom. This session will provide resources to create a #DigCitCulture online while emphasizing social-emotional learning; as well as equity and access for all students. Resources for #DigCitCulture and Media Literacy can be applied TK-12th grade.

Proposal summary

Purpose & objective

Participants will be able to identify how to create innovative solutions to digital citizenship implementation that goes beyond worksheets and assemblies and focuses on building digital citizenship capacity within a school cultural system . Specific resources available on a Padlet that will identify key components of digital citizenship/literacy. Participants will be introduced to the Design-Thinking Model as an approach to building an intentional digital citizenship culture, lesson implementation will be available, as well as building digital citizenship as part of an MTSS structure. A series of potential discussion points will be created as the presenters plan on encouraging discussion and questions. Evidence of our success will be data from our Digital Citizenship Summit on October 4th, 2018 and continued work over the 2019-2020 school year with multiple school districts across San Bernardino county.

Laurel Aguilar-Kirchhoff, San Bernardino County Superintendent of

Laurel Aguilar-Kirchhoff is the Digital Learning Project Specialist for San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools in California. As a 20 year secondary-level teacher specializing in Physical Science/US History, Laurel understands the complexities of personalized learning, digital citizenship/media literacy in the online/blended classroom and school setting. Her passion is supporting teachers, coaches, and administrators by emphasizing access/equity for all students. Laurel is a member of Inland Area CUE, ACSA Region 12 Women's Leadership Network, serves on the State Leadership Team for National History Day-CA and is the Incoming ISTE Digital Citizenship PLN Co-President.

Sonal Patel, San Bernardino County Superintendent

Sonal Patel is the Digital Learning Innovation Coordinator at San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools. She supports educators and administrators in active professional learning grounded in solid pedagogy centered around closing the digital equity gaps. Sonal was also recently recognized recently by Ed Tech Magazine as one of the top 30 I.T Influencers of 2020. Sonal is a Google Certified Trainer and Innovator #LON19, a Microsoft Innovative Educator and a member of Our Voice Alliance. Formerly, Sonal has been an instructional coach and taught in grades K-6 both in California and the U.K.
