After the presentation, participants will walk away with a full understanding of Prepmedians, edutainment, and how to engage their students in the classroom. So many students tune out of their education because they do not find it culturally relevant anymore. However, by understanding that engaging them in rap, humor, and music, we as educators can go above the status quo in education and get them to realize how applicable education is to the success that they yearn for in their lives. Imagine if we had never learned the alphabet song--it would have been far more difficult to learn those 26 letters!
We will use Prepmedians.com for the demonstration of instructional activities. It is an educational software program that teaches test prep through highly effective sketch comedy and pop music videos (think Khan Academy meets Saturday Night Live). Thus far, we have seen the following success:
We have nonprofit and school partners nationwide and have seen incredible results with many students improving from average to 99th percentile scores and a statistically significant increase of 7% from the base score after students watch just one video.
Audiences will be guided through the use of the platform, scientific research supporting edutainment and its efficacy, and the chance to interact with modules on the platform to see for themselves the effectiveness of the platform.
Time will be approximately 30 minutes if snapshot and 1 hour if lecture and will involve 1/3 of the time on research, 1/3 of the time on demonstration and 1/3 of the time on interaction and questions.
We will use visually stunning and hilarious videos to captivate the audience as well as the award-winning charisma of CEO Kalyan Ray-Mazumder who was a professional Off-Broadway actor.
