This session aims to inform teachers about how to use TikTok to increase student engagement with content-related material. Presenters will show examples of TikTok videos and interactions with students that have increased engagement.

Purpose & objective

Participants will be able to learn how to create, edit, and publish TikTok videos in order to increase student engagement of content-related material. TikTok is a heavily used app among grade-level-aged students; therefore, educators will be able to encourage students to participate in continued learning outside of the classroom by watching the TikTok videos.

Outline

Introduce tool i.e. TikTok examples & student comments (10-15 minutes)
Show how teachers & students have used TikTok in school (10-15 minutes)
Explain/demonstrate how to make, edit, and publish a TikTok (20 minutes)
Implement tool on own with help from presenters (10-20 minutes)

Emily Taylor, Red Lion Area Junior High

Mrs. Taylor began teaching 8th Grade English at Red Lion Area Junior High in 2014. She was the co-advisor of the Cat's Paw, the school's newspaper. She was a field hockey coach at Red Lion for 4 years before becoming the head coach at Dallastown. Recently, Mrs. Taylor obtained her Master's degree in classroom technology. Additionally, she has presented at the Pennsylvania Educational Technology Expo & Conference (PETE&C) twice and has attended ISTE once.
