When biomedical research and our interactive reading passages partner, greatness happens! While Sanford Research showcases health science STEM careers, our thematic virtual journeys bring secondary students through adapted primary literature and multimedia. Students help actual scientists solve real problems with authentic data by "researching biomedicine." No lab? No problem.

Facilitator
  • Foster a culture where students take ownership of their learning goals and outcomes in both independent and group settings.
  • Manage the use of technology and student learning strategies in digital platforms, virtual environments, hands-on makerspaces or in the field.
  • Model and nurture creativity and creative expression to communicate ideas, knowledge or connections.

Proposal summary

Purpose & objective

Teachers will be able to identify three ways they may facilitate an Interactive Reading Passage like "Researching Biomedicine" with multimedia Waypoints, including but not limited to remote assignment, whole group instruction, or small group facilitation. Teacher engagement will roughly model the structure of the Passage itself, including the sequenced order of the JOURNEY format (Job, Opportunity, Unique, Real & New Science, Engineering, and You!). Evidence of success is rooted in teachers' feedback on how they will use the sequenced structure of the Interactive Reading Passage (with multimedia Waypoints) with their students, as well as sharing their feedback on highlights they find in the content and virtual implementation possibilities.
