As educators are looking for ways to prepare students for the future, this session will focus on the importance of the design thinking process while building the necessary skills to compete in the global economy. Participants will experience design challenges that were built with purposeful integration of technology tools that promote and develop creative thinking and problem-solving skills. They will also gain ideas on effectively giving students a choice in the classroom to provide for differentiated instruction.
In this session participants will:
Create a Hybrid Animal using a variety of MakerSpace mediums and reflect upon the process through a Flipgrid Design Challenge. They will also view a mixtape of student created videos using the design process.
Watch a student created virtual tour (screen recording) of a Minecraft Edu Rebuilding of the City Project. This project was introduced to the students after Hurricane Laura caused catastrophic damage to their city.
Actively engage with a student engineered Rube Goldberg machine that was created using the 3D pen, tape and glue. They will watch student created PowerPoint instructional videos that show the journey students went through in the design process.
Gain ideas on the creation and use of a MeTube Channel that host a variety of video reflections and gain ideas on Tech Smashing Choice Boards that allow for differentiated instruction.
Walk away with a wealth of resources to begin implementation of all of the challenges and tools shown in the session. All lessons and tools have been adapted to successfully integrate into any learning environment (F2F, Hybrid, or Virtual).
The purpose of this session is to allow participants the opportunity to explore and experience a variety of tools that they can take back to the classroom to begin using with their students that will foster creativity, enhance their communication skills, and build teamwork.
