By the end of the session participants will be able to access and use all significant features of vr.vex.com. Educators will create or modify an existing coding challenge that is available through the site. Evidence of success will be in the form of a completed product that can be used in the classroom immediately upon completion of the session.
Outline:
- Personal Introduction (5 minutes)
- "Drive Forward" is the new hello world! - Participants will be asked to go to vr.vex.com and "make the robot drive forward" without being given any further instruction. This will illustrate how accessible and intuitive the platform can be. - (10 minutes)
- Overview of Features (10 minutes)
- Introduction to Challenges available under "Activities" (5 minutes)
- Instruction on how to modify a challenge (2 minutes)
- Design time (20 minutes) during this time the presenter will engage with participants individually to help them modify or create their own coding challenges using VEX VR.
- Share out ideas and Q&A (10 minutes)

Mark Johnston has seven years of experience in education. He has taught science, math, and various STEM courses. During the 21/22 school year he taught Robotics at JM Hanks High School in El Paso, TX. This school year, he has accepted the position of Director of Robotics for Greenville ISD. Mr. Johnston spends his free time with his wife and three children, coaching competitive robotics teams, and as president of a nonprofit educational organization.
