As a 30-year veteran Instructional Technology/STEM-CTE Teacher from Aurora Public Schools in Aurora, Colorado. Teaching CTE-STEM classes in computer science, robotics, video production, Design and Marketing. Teaching in a K-8 has gave me opportunity to create a CTE pathway based on work-based learning skills students. Engaging curious, creative learners, and problem solvers. I enjoy working with educators to build their passion and understanding of Technology Integration to engage students. I am an ISTE Certified Educator, and an InnEdCO Ambassador and have presented at ISTE since 2010 and Colorado’s ISTE Affiliate InnEdCO since 2007.

Session description

Ignite students' passion for creative learning with a purpose! Get ready to help students ignite their passions with Work-based Learning! You don’t have to be a Career Technical Eduation(CTE) teacher or have special tools--just an understanding of Work-based Learning to bring Career Readiness to your classroom

Purpose & objective

For both the Poster or Snapshot formats-
Purpose-to share ways to integrate Makerspace ideas and classroom stations to create Independent Learning Spaces to apply classroom learning and work-based skills and strategies that creatively engage classroom learners using your Content Standards and learning objectives.

Objectives
Participants will develop understandings of the following:
Connecting Content Standards with Career Readiness Skills
Creating CTE-based Maker Learning Stations to promote inclusion of all learners and independent learning
Participants will leave with access to templates and links to develop their own CTE-based Learning Stations in their classroom

Outline

For the Poster Format:
Participants will be able to view a slide show showing students working at MakerSpace CTE stations in different learning environments and content
The following posters will be viewable on the bulletin board:
QR code for resources for a station template to use to design Makerspace CTE Stations will be displayed.
The Template design and resources used to create the templates
I will be available for questions and comments

If chosen as a Snapshot:
Participants will view a narrated presentation sharing how to use classroom content standarads to create CTE-style Learning Stations in their classroom to promote independent learning to apply classroom content while learning practicing and learning career skills and strategies.

If Chosen for the Interactive Format
-Participants will enter the room that has been set up like my CTE Makerspace Stations in my classroom to invite participation in differentiated CTE Makerspace stations focused on Communication.
5 min-Welcome and Introduction of myself and stations
15 min communication creation by participants, I will be roving and communicating with participants
10 min Use of Communication Tools (business card, logo, email, voicemail introduction created so participants get to know 1 other person in the room
5 min shareout of experience
2 min Work-based Learning Expectations how to find, how to integrate into the classroom
15 min begin station design for participant's content
5 min closing, evaluation, questions
