Session description

Gaming's prevalence among students offers educators a unique opportunity to build stronger connections and foster belonging with more middle school students. The sessions will highlight the WHY (improved attendance, engagement & academic performance), the HOW (enhancing students' well-being and belonging) and the WHAT (forming Esports Clubs) of MS Esports Clubs.

Purpose & objective

1: Discover the Power of Esports Clubs: Explore how esports clubs can leverage students' passion for gaming to build meaningful connections with school and peers. Hear about the transformative impact that esports clubs have had on our students' engagement, motivation, and socialization.
2: Learn from Henrico’s Success Story: Gain firsthand knowledge from our journey of starting three middle school esports clubs. We will share practical strategies and lessons learned, offering insights into the process of initiating and sustaining successful esports clubs.
3: Equip Yourself for Advocacy: Acquire the tools and resources needed to advocate for esports clubs in your own school or division. Learn how to effectively communicate the benefits of esports clubs to administrators, parents, and other stakeholders, and address any concerns or misconceptions that may arise.
4: Score Practical Tips for Implementation: Receive practical tips and guidance on how to start an esports club, from logistics and equipment considerations to recruitment strategies and establishing a supportive community. Explore ways to integrate esports clubs into the school curriculum and leverage them for academic and personal growth opportunities.

Since then, we have been unwavering in our commitment to learn and implement the best practices for initiating and scaling Middle School Esports Clubs across Henrico County Public Schools.
