Purpose:
The primary purpose of this session is to enhance educators' AI literacy and provide them with an engaging, AI-friendly teaching strategy that can be seamlessly integrated into their classrooms.
Participant Outcomes:
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
Explain key components of AI foundational knowledge and its relevance in the educational context.
Participate in an AI-friendly teaching method, understanding its application and benefits.
Adapt and implement the demonstrated AI-friendly teaching strategy in diverse classroom settings.
Educational Challenge:
There's a growing need to integrate AI in education, but many educators lack the foundational knowledge and practical strategies to do so effectively.
Technology Intervention:
The session will utilize ChatGPT, a generative AI chatbot, to demonstrate the teaching strategy.
Models Employed:
The session employs a game-based learning model, drawing inspiration from the TV game show "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?" but with an AI twist.
Lesson Plans or Instructional Activities:
The core activity is the game "Are You Smarter Than a Robot?". Educators will participate in this game, answering questions without AI assistance, then comparing their answers with AI-generated responses. The game is designed to be replicable in classrooms across various subjects.
Evidence of Success:
The success of this strategy is evident in its dual-purpose approach: enhancing AI literacy while also providing a fun, interactive teaching method. Feedback from previous implementations indicates increased educator confidence in discussing and integrating AI in their lessons.
