Session description
Purpose & objective
This interactive session will help educators think critically about the technology tools they implement in their classrooms and how they impact learners of diverse backgrounds. Additionally, it will help educators to create awareness around barriers and benefits that certain technology tools may create in the classroom.
Outline
About Us: Introduce CEISL’s throughlines (2 mins)
- Multiple ways of knowing and doing, Intentional use of Technology, Coalition Building, Empowering Communities and Families, Equitable Practices and Systems (Price, et al, 2020)- which is built upon the concepts of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) (Rose & Meyers 2002) and Culturally Relevant Pedagogy (CRP) (Ladson-Billings, 1995) frameworks centering learners, families, and communities.

Intentionality with Technology: Framework (Domine, 2010) (2 mins)
Application of Concepts: Explorer’s Guide Tool Kit (20 mins)+ extension activity (15 mins)
- Operating with the Intentionality with Technology: Framework, (Domine, 2010)
- Achieving Equitable Access (5 mins) Flashlight: illuminate the issues that obstruct students from achieving their learning goals.
-Overcoming Excessive Standardization (5 mins) Scissors: who is being cut out from the curriculum?
-Embracing Media Literacy (5 mins) Pen: information shapes and is shaped by how we live and interact with each other
-Committing to Professional Development (5 mins) Compass: Professional development guides us to our mission and achieve our goals
Activity (15 mins)
-The activity will have participants select a technology tool they use regularly and have them use the 4 criteria to apply the concepts included in the session.
