During this session, attendees will learn how to challenge and inspire themselves and their students to build self-confidence, nurture their creative spirit, and find the courage to make a difference in other people’s lives. Participants will be able to:
1. Familiarize themselves with the book "The Dot" by Peter H. Reynolds and its key themes.
2. Understand the significance of International Dot Day and its relevance to education.
3. Explore different teaching strategies and activities that promote creativity and self-expression.
4. Develop a teacher toolkit of ideas and resources to inspire and engage students.
5. Reflect on the importance of cultivating a growth mindset in the classroom.
6. Collaborate with fellow educators to share best practices and innovative approaches.
7. Create a personalized action plan for implementing International Dot Day activities in their own classroom.
1. Welcome and Introductions - 5 minutes
2. The importance of creative teaching - 10 minutes
3. Introduce The Dot, International Dot Day, and Resources - 10 minutes
4. The Dot read aloud - 5 minutes
5. Create a Dot activity - 15 minutes.
Participants will create their own unique Dot using makerspace materials or
Adobe Express as a creative choice.
6. Gallery Walk - 10 minutes
Attendees will share their Dots with a partner and brainstorm
classroom/schoolwide implementation ideas.
7. Closing and additional resources - 5 minutes
Each year in September, millions of educators worldwide connect at internationaldotday.org to inspire their students’ creativity and the power to start with just a dot by celebrating International Dot Day.

Peter H. Reynolds’ book, The Dot has been translated into many languages (including Portuguese, Chinese, Korean, Hebrew, Spanish, and even Braille.)
The animated film of The Dot (produced by Peter H. Reynolds’ multimedia design and development firm FableVision Studios and co-producer Scholastic) earned the Carnegie Medal of Excellence.
