Session description

Worried about the ethics of AI? Feeling overwhelmed by possibilities? In this session, you'll discover AI tools and strategies that have been vetted by knowledgeable educators so you don’t have to spend hours on trial-and-error. The end result? A better approach to lesson planning, differentiation, assessment, and more.

Outline

This is a fast-paced session that moves quickly from setting the stage (identifying tasks that teachers often have to do on their evenings and weekends) to practical solutions. Quick demonstrations of various tools and their uses are included (via screencasts) as well as tips for integrating AI into regular teaching routines so AI is no longer an afterthought. Opportunities for discussion and questions are included.

Introduction: Setting the Stage (3 min)
- We will briefly discuss the common tasks that teachers often tackle outside of school hours, such as lesson planning, grading, and parent communication.
- Participants will be invited to share a couple of their biggest time-consuming tasks via a quick poll.
- I will highlight the impact of these tasks on educators' work-life balance.

Practical Demonstrations of AI Tools (22 min)
- I will conduct quick demonstrations of free AI tools using screencasts, showing their applications for tasks such as:
*Parent communication
*Automating emails and newsletters
*Generating lesson ideas and resources
*Creating quizzes
*Providing instant feedback
*Adapting materials for diverse learners
-Participants will be encouraged to think about how they can use these tools in their own classrooms while watching the demos.
-I will share tips and strategies for seamlessly incorporating AI tools into everyday teaching practices so that they become a regular part of participant's workflows.

Wrap Up and Next Steps (5 min)
- Participants will be asked to choose an aspect of their work to automate with AI in the week ahead, using a collaborative brainstorming tool to share their plan.
- I will provide a link to resources and tools shared during the session, ensuring participants have access for future reference.
