Dynamic, Transformational Leadership: How to Humanize School Culture
,
HBGCC - 007CD
Session description
Outline
The content presented will begin with a mindful moment, centering around the understanding that our brains perform their best when in a positive state. Then, in roughly 15-minute increments, each of the three strategies will be introduced, followed by a partner activity (affirming statements, sharing action steps, role playing scenarios), concluding with locking in a leadership commitment based on each of the three strategies.
Supporting research
Nationally, the teacher shortage and attrition rates remain a leading concern. "According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of [staff] employed in public schools has dropped from almost 8.1 million in March 2020 to 7.3 million in May". While employment has somewhat grown since then, schools nationally are still short over 350,000 positions. While some of the reasons educators note for leaving the profession include poor salary and benefits, which are often out of the direct control of school leaders, we can control the influence we have over other factors - such as reducing work loads, bringing clarity to new initiatives, fostering collaboration to maximize the collective efforts of the staff, and reducing stress by providing moments of joy, team building, and intentional celebrations.
