Session description

SD43 (Coquitlam, BC) teachers share their experience working with the Kwikwetlem First Nation, Microsoft, & Logics Academy to develop and expand an indigenous Minecraft EDU world called, "A Pacific NW Coast Experience." Participants will learn how Minecraft EDU can be leveraged to share traditional indigenous teachings within a STEAM framework.

Outline

*Introduce presenters and provide history and context for the "A Pacific NW Coast Experience" project. 5 mins.
*Explain Truth and Reconciliation, First Peoples principles of learning and how they fit into a STEAM Framework for learning. 5 mins.
*Overview of the world and learning objects. 5 mins.
*Participants guided through one of the learning objects before being asked to complete a harvest task on their own. Experienced Minecraft users will likely have time to also complete a build challenge. 30 mins.
*Debrief and Discussion 10-15 mins.

Those without devices or accounts may watch other participants as they explore the world and complete harvest tasks.
