Session description
Outline
Introduction: (2-3 min) Share backgrounds of presenters and introduce presentation by asking the question, " Do you have what it takes to be a meteorologist?"
Overview: (2-3 min)Emphasis of PBL in Science-using weather forecasting as our model project.
Activity Part 1: (5-7 min) Each participant will randomly select a city in Texas (I will have them pick a name from a hat). QR Code will be provided to do a brief Weather Scavenger Hunt, where the participants will conduct research on the weather conditions of their city using provided platforms (i.e. NOAA).
Activity Part 2: (10-15 min) I will introduce Canva and go over how to create a video. I will have the participants play around with presenting their weather data collection as a forecast for their assigned city. They can explore using various backgrounds to record their videos of their forecasts, and I will emphasize how they do not need a green screen to film with Canva.
Then participants will use the data they collected and create a short weather forecast video in Canva. During this time myself and fellow presenter will work with participants individually on how to add various elements to videos, and highlight the most useful editing tools.
Wrap-up/ Conclusion: (5 min)
Share all resources for PBL with participants digitally in a resource packet and conduct a Q&A.
Reflection:
Have participants answer the question of "How they can/ plan on using anything from the session in their classroom?"- this will enter them into a swag giveaway drawing that will be announced before end of day of presentation.
