This interactive session will allow you to engage with innovative technology and explore engaging ways to teach maths. In this hands-on session, you’ll step into the role of a learner, experiencing a responsive digital math lesson designed to promote inquiry, collaboration, and reflective maths thinking. We’ll explore strategies for scaffolding instruction, differentiating tasks, and fostering problem-solving skills through an engaging, student-centered activity. Whether you’re new to using technology in maths instruction or looking for fresh approaches, this session will equip you with ideas to make learning more interactive, meaningful, and fun for all students!.

Session Breakdown:
(3 Minutes) Quick Connection & "Math Myth":
Log ‘students’ into a class
quick poll in Desmos
common math myth
2. (7 Minutes) UDL & Desmos: Visual Demonstration:
Recap UDLs 3 principles & connections to Desmos
Focus on one key UDL principle
Show a Desmos activity and demonstrate
Different customisations
Keep the math very simple, focusing on the tool.
3. (10 Minutes) Hands-on "Card Sort" Activity:
Participants work in pairs on a pre-made Desmos "Card Sort" activity.
The activity will have math terms and their visual representations, or math equations and their graphs.
This provides a very quick hands on experience.
This will allow for multiple means of engagement, and expression.
4. (5 Minutes) Quick "Takeaway Tip" & Q&A:
Provide one actionable tip e.g. : "Use Desmos's accessibility features (screen reader compatibility, etc.) to make your activities more inclusive."
Open the floor for 2-3 brief questions.
