Event Information
(60-minute session):
(10 min) The "Why": From Mandate to Partnership. We’ll discuss the rationale for student involvement in AI policy-making. We will "inspire" attendees by framing this as an opportunity for authentic digital citizenship. This will include an interactive poll: "Who is currently involved in creating AI policy at your school?"
(20 min) The "Who & How": Building Your Advisory Committee. This section provides a detailed blueprint for forming a student advisory committee. We'll cover the recruitment and selection process, setting mandates, and the collaborative workflow (surveys, town halls, drafting sessions) used to co-author the framework.
(20 min) Interactive Workshop: The Framework Blueprint. We will "show, don't tell" by sharing the key pillars of our final AI framework8. In small groups, attendees will use a digital template to outline the top three priorities for their own school's AI framework, encouraging active participation.
(10 min) Navigating Challenges & Open Q&A. A practical discussion on overcoming common hurdles (e.g., managing differing opinions, gaining faculty buy-in). We'll conclude with an open Q&A to address specific implementation questions.
After this session, participants will be able to:
Establish a student advisory committee to serve as partners in developing technology policy.
Facilitate a collaborative process for drafting, reviewing, and implementing a school-wide AI framework.
Identify the essential components of an effective AI framework, including guidelines for ethical use, academic integrity, and pedagogical application.
