Session description

We'll explore AI and brain-based learning strategies and literacy instruction for all learners. Drawing from personal coaching experiences and classroom applications, we will showcase how AI tools can personalize writing and deepen student engagement—especially in underrepresented communities. We’ll explore how the brain processes language and examine cognitive science.

Presentation Outline (60 Minutes) Subject to change
1. Welcome & Framing the Session (5 minutes)
• Content: Brief intro to session goals, presenter backgrounds, and relevance to current literacy challenges.
• Engagement: Quick poll using Mentimeter or Slido: “What excites you most—AI, brain-based learning, or equity in literacy?”
• Process: Device-based activity to spark curiosity and set tone.

2. Literacy Through the Lens of the Brain (10 minutes)
• Content: Overview of brain-based learning principles (executive function, emotional engagement, metacognition) and their connection to literacy.
• Engagement: Think-Pair-Share: “What brain-based strategies have you used or seen in literacy instruction?”
• Process: Peer-to-peer interaction; visual aids (infographics or short video clips).

3. AI in Literacy Instruction (15 minutes)
• Content: Demonstration of AI tools) for writing support, feedback, and differentiation.
• Engagement: Live demo + guided exploration: Participants use a tool to generate a writing scaffold or feedback example.
• Process: Device-based activity; small-group discussion on classroom applications.

4. Culturally Responsive Literacy Practices (10 minutes)
• Content: Insights from your doctoral research on cultural proficiency and inclusive pedagogy; how to integrate these with AI and brain-based strategies.

• Process: Individual journaling + small-group sharing.
