Session description

In this session, I will explain how the use of accessibility tools and UDL, which are designed for people with disabilities, actually benefits all students. When we design with accessibility at the forefront, everyone benefits. It's simple, but not easy. I will give examples from my own classroom.

Outline

1. Quick poll
2. Story about 3 of my former students in special education.
3. Connection to accessibility tools for everyone: closed captioning, voice typing, audiobooks.
4. Explanation of the UDL framework as it applies to designing for the edges.
5. Call to action- what to do next and how to do it.

Outcomes

Attendees will learn how using accessibility tools and the UDL framework will help each and every student that they serve. By planning with our students with disabilities in mind, we actually incorporate more best practices and high impact strategies that benefit all students.
