Session description

Discover how students can use digital media to drive civic engagement and advocacy, like in the KQED Youth Media Challenge. Empower student voice and foster real-world impact in your classroom! Leave this session with some concrete teaching strategies and project ideas for showcasing student voices in authentic ways.

Outline (60 min lab)
10 min - Civil Dialogue Strategies to discuss Social Change (Presentation)
10 min - Digital tools and resources for digital media making (Live Demo)
30 min - Participants will work on designing a unit plan that features a student digital media project. Attendees will be able to look at different examples, evaluate session resources, and get feedback from the presenters, as well as fellow attendees as they think on how to incorporate student media projects for social change. (Structured work time)
5 min - Implementation Plan (Discussion)
5 min - Reflection & Wrap Up
