Session description
Traditional assessment systems often fail to capture the rich learning that happens beyond the classroom. Grounded in Big Picture Learning's learner-centered design, this interactive workshop explores how schools can recognize, document, and award credit for meaningful learning experiences that occur anytime and anywhere. Participants will learn practical strategies for using exhibitions, portfolios, real-world projects, internships, competency-based assessments, and learner reflections to measure growth and mastery. Through our International Big Picture Learning Credential (IBPLC), participants will explore how learner-centered assessment systems honor student interests, amplify agency, and provide authentic evidence of learning while maintaining rigor and accountability. Educators will leave with tools and ideas for transforming assessment into a process that values the full range of student learning experiences.
