I have a passion for engaging students in STEM/STEAM and Technology. One medium that I have expertise and experience in is elementary robotics and Project Based Learning. I have a STEAM Micro-Credential for Los Angeles Unified School District. I have over 23 years experience in elementary education. I have personally witnessed the excitement and self-efficacy of students of all ages when they can solve their own problems through productive struggle. There are so many opportunities to install qualities in students of today for careers that do not exist today.

Session description

“Imagine the Possibilities” - this presentation is a prototype program that can be replicated throughout the country. It details a program in which students have opportunities to engage in enrichment with a showcase event. This program is a first step to address the typical imbalance of STEM/STEAM opportunities.

Purpose & objective

The purpose of this presentation “Imagine the Possibilities” first and foremost is Being Ready for the World. It can mean many things to many people. Are we providing the opportunities for all students to be prepared and inspired to thrive in college, career, and their lives beyond our classroom walls. Being ready for the world means all students are advocates for themselves and others, and that they are open-minded, adaptable, and effective communicators.

This presentation provides an overview of the “Imagine the Possibilities” project in which students who are typically underrepresented in STEM/STEAM to engage in authentic STEM/STEAM enrichment opportunities and then showcase and celebrate their achievements through demonstrations and friendly co-operative mini-tournaments. The presenters will demonstrate how this program is easily replicable to school sites to districts throughout the country.

The "Imagine the Possibilities - Ready for the World" presentation is a culmination and showcase of the LAUSD BSAP "Imagine the Possibilities" STEAM Series Program.
