I have been an educator for 31 years, spending the last 11 at the district level as a Technology Integration Specialist. I am a Minecraft™ Ambassador, a Microsoft™ Education Expert, a Google™ Certified Trainer and Coach, and an Apple™ Learning Coach. I love helping teachers to find innovative ways to use technology tools effectively in the classroom. I also love to code my spreadsheets with Google Apps Script. Session description

Google Apps Script can customize any spreadsheet in many ways! Come learn how using a few lines of script can transform your spreadsheet, and help you organize and group data better, and faster!

Purpose & objective

It is my goal that participants will walk away with a very clear understanding of how to add Google Apps Script to any spreadsheet to help automate and organize data very quickly. Anyone who is attending this session will be expected to take part in working right alongside the presenter. This session will not be a "sit and get" session, as there will be work time for participants to learn and experience how to add Google Apps Script to a spreadsheet correctly.

The presenter and co-presenter will walk around and facilitate by answering questions and troubleshooting issues that may come up as participants are working on their scripts. Each attendee will receive a digital step-by-step tutorial that will describe in detail every action the presenter will be modeling and demonstrating during the session. They will also leave with a script that can be put into practice right away.

My overall goal is that participants feel empowered and confident about using Google Apps Script to create new ways of organizing data, that will save time and effort for those needing to access data types for student success.

Outline

This session will be completely hands-on, where attendees will be expected to complete the same tasks that the presenter will model for them. Participants will be given adequate work time, where they will be working on their own devices, and the presenter and co-presenter will facilitate and ensure that everyone is fully participating. The activities that will be covered are as follows:

1. What is Google Apps Script, and how do I access it?
2. How do I write Google Apps Script?
3. How do I test the script?
4. Are there places I can find other examples of script?
5. What data will I be using?
6. How do I get the script to read the correct data?
7. What does the data tell me?
8. How can this Data Draw help me group students faster?
9. How can I plan lessons based on this Data Draw?
10. Where can I get additional information if I need it?

Any other questions or issues will be answered and addressed as they come up during the session. Attendees will be given the presenter's contact information, if there is more support or information needed.
