Session description
Purpose & objective
The proposed session aims to showcase the strategies, resources, and outcomes of Mariemont City Schools' digital citizenship program. We will discuss our journey towards creating a K-12 digital citizenship curriculum, focusing on how we've engaged students, educators, and the community in this endeavor. Attendees will gain insights into the following key elements:
1. Dedicated Digital Learning Coaches:
Mariemont City Schools has committed to fostering digital citizenship by employing three dedicated digital learning coaches. These experts work collaboratively with teachers to integrate digital citizenship principles into everyday instruction. During the session, we will discuss how their roles were defined, their responsibilities, and the impact they've had on both teachers and students.
2. STEM Teacher Engagement:
A STEM teacher's perspective is invaluable in shaping a digital citizenship program. We will share how our STEM teacher plays a pivotal role in merging technology and responsible digital practices. Attendees will learn about the synergies between STEM education and digital citizenship and how this combination enhances learning experiences.
3. Scope and Sequence:
Creating a scope and sequence is essential to ensure that digital citizenship concepts are introduced and reinforced throughout a student's educational journey. We will present our meticulously designed scope and sequence, which aligns with national standards and offers a clear roadmap for progressively building digital citizenship skills in our students.
Outline
The session will begin by breaking down each of the four criteria of the Digital Citizen Educator standard. Participants will see examples of how we incorporate skills into various content courses. We will share how we have created a team of coaches and teachers to create our district plan. Attendees will view our scope and sequence for K-12, where we engage learners in understanding how to be positive digital citizens. We will share resources, talking points, and an example on how we work with students to meet the standard.
