Session description

Learn how to create and use interactive Nearpod activities to engage students in the teaching process, assess frequently and accurately, and analyze formative assessment data quickly and easily so you can adjust your instruction and lessons to meet student needs.

Purpose & objective

and Objectives * We all know that frequent formative assessment and adjustment of your lesson plans are essential to good student learning. But who has time to grade quizzes and exit tickets every class? Introducing Nearpod Activities, a quick and engaging way to assess your students in real-time so that you can adjust your planning to meet their needs. Nearpod is an online presentation and assessment tool. It works across all platforms as an app or website, so that any school can easily integrate it into their 1:1 or BYOD setting. This session will demonstrate how to change the way you teach and assess. Instead of another online or on-paper quiz or exit card, use Nearpod Activities along with other note-taking methods to quickly prepare and present student-focused, highly engaging lessons that assess as you go. Use the Draw-It feature for Formative Assessments that students actually enjoy doing. Use Nearpod to link to other online formative assessment tools such as Kahoot!, Quizzizz, Blooket, Gimkit, Flipgrid, and other sites so that no class time is lost while students navigate to other tools. Ask assessment questions of all types “On-the-Fly” so that you never miss an opportunity to check for understanding. And finally, learn about the Reports tool which allows you to view and understand your assessments to get the most out of them.
Participants will be given access to an online handout that includes step-by-step directions for all of the activities presented in the session.
