Jamie Rifkowitz began her career as a Middle School Math Teacher, teaching grades 6, 7, and 8. During that time, she had the opportunity to pilot a blended learning chromebook program in her classroom. After 8 years, Jamie made the switch to become a District Technology Facilitator. She holds certifications in Elementary Education, Middle School Math and Teacher of Students with Disabilities. Jamie is Google Certified Level 1 and 2 and is a Certified Google Trainer. She was recently named the 2021-2022 Educational Professional of the Year for Harding Elementary School located in Kenilworth, NJ

Session description

Participants will experience an Ed Tech Chopped session. Exploring accessibility features & providing the opportunity to utilize these features effectively in lessons.. Educators will participate will be asked to call on their culinary skills as they face off against one another to prepare a spectacular three-course meal; ed-tech style!

Purpose & objective

EdTech Chopped Session-
Educational or infrastructure challenge/situation: The use of accessibility tools to allow each and every student to reach their full potential.
Technology intervention (include specific names/titles and descriptions if tools are not widely known and available): Various online platforms, including Google resources for Educators, as well as gamify sections will be utilized based on real-time information provided from the informational survey.
Models employed (include a brief description): "Chopped" style here participants will face off against one another to prepare a spectacular three-course meal consisting of an appetizer, lunch and dessert
Lesson plans or instructional activities/strategies employed (include a brief description of your instructional electronic resources or tools used): Strategies will include small group, personalized learning as well as a jigsaw activity
Evidence of success: Outcome survey; curated resources based on a topic to use in the classroom the following day.

Outline

Content and activities: What content will be presented and/or in what activities will the audience participate? Participants will be presented with activities curated based on a personalized survey. This will include Google tools, various app/extension features and gamify resources.
Time: How much time will be spent on each content component? Time will vary based on need, but no individual piece will be more than fifteen minutes.
Process: Include specifics on the frequency and tactics you plan to use to engage the audience (e.g., peer-to-peer interaction, device-based activities, games or contests, etc.).: All of the above!
