Presenters
I have 21 years of experience in face-to-face (F2F) and online course design, e-learning, curriculum development, and instructional design. I have expertise in remote teaching, distance education, and distributed learning. I also have extensive experience in educational setting analysis, digital technology innovation, and strategic technology adoption. My expertise has led to the successful implementation of technology in F2F and hybrid/blended learning environments. I have led projects facilitating transformations with technologies in different teaching and learning contexts. I have worked 12 years with pre-service and in-service teacher preparation programs at Boston University and California State University, Los Angeles.

Session description
Learning Engineering (LE) is a process that combines learning sciences, instructional design, and data analytics to support learning. In this session, we will introduce the learning engineering process and participants will practice applying the process by working together on a pK-12 scenario.
Purpose & objective
Session facilitators will provide a brief overview of what learning engineering is and the learning engineering process within the context of the pK-12 education space. Prior to embarking on pK-12-focused projects, it is important to consider how they should be designed and who should be at the table during planning and execution (Basu et al., 2020; Holstein et al., 2019). Therefore, collaborative exploration of example opportunities in the pK-12 education space using a learning engineering lens can lend powerful insights into how these opportunities may be addressed when solving real-world problems. During the active learning portion of this session, participants will be guided through a pK-12 scenario well-suited to applying learning engineering principles and procedures.
