Session description
Purpose & objective
Session facilitators will provide a brief overview of what learning engineering is and the learning engineering process within the context of the pK-12 education space. Prior to embarking on pK-12-focused projects, it is important to consider how they should be designed and who should be at the table during planning and execution (Basu et al., 2020; Holstein et al., 2019). Therefore, collaborative exploration of example opportunities in the pK-12 education space using a learning engineering lens can lend powerful insights into how these opportunities may be addressed when solving real-world problems. During the active learning portion of this session, participants will be guided through a pK-12 scenario well-suited to applying learning engineering principles and procedures.
Outline
Content and activities: We will introduce the learning engineering process and overview the scenario and activity.
Time: 10 mins for introduction, 50 for the activity
Process: The pK-12 scenario is outlined on an existing Google site along with learning engineering resources for participants to reference. Participants will work together with guidance from the presenters to apply the learning engineering process to address the scenario.
