Session description

Artificial intelligence has the potential to transform the classroom, making it more accessible and inclusive for all learners. In this session, we will explore how AI can be used to streamline teacher workflow, increase professional efficiency and adapt content for UDL-aligned instruction. AI engagement tools will also be explored.

Purpose & objective

The purpose of "Leveraging AI to Create a Universally Designed Classroom" is to introduce an innovative approach to educators by harnessing the power of AI to create a UDL classroom environment. Our objective is to empower educators with cutting edge AI tools and techniques that can enhance pedagogical practices, cater to diverse learner needs and ultimately revolutionize the teaching and learning experience.
Participants will gain comprehensive understanding of how AI technologies can be strategically integrated into the classroom environment. They will also get a hands-on experience by experimenting with various AI programs tailored for educators. Some of these tools may include but are not limited to: Eduaide, MagicSchool AI, Curipod ,ChatGPT and Perplexity and the like.

Outline

1. Welcome, presenter introductions 3 minutes
2. Description of educational context in which presenters work (i.e. student and community demographics, barriers) Identifying the challenge: how can we create an inclusive classroom where learning is personalized for all students? 5 minutes
3. UDL: What is it and how does AI fit in? 5 minutes
4. Walk attendees through several AI programs. The format will be an “AI Slam”, wherein presenters each introduce a program and pitch its benefits for teacher use. Attendees will then “choose their own adventure” to explore the tool they are most interested in based on the presenter's pitches. Attendees will participate in a poll and reflect on a padlet how they might use their favorite tool within their educational context. Three rounds of AI Slam (pitches) will be conducted. (Programs may include Eduaide, MagicSchool AI, Perplexity, ChatGPT, and Curipod - subject to change a bit depending on the advancement of AI tools between now and ISTELive 24.) 40 minutes
6. Feedback forum - Several attendees will share out their own aha moments and favorite programs they "road tested". This is an opportunity for the audience to pitch THEIR learning. 5 minutes
8. Closing and additional resources. 2 minutes
