Outline

Outline: This session will be an interactive session that will largely focus on audience engagement.
1. There will be an introductory engagement that will provide live data analysis and reporting. This interaction will involve a chatbot and the audience to gauge the demographic and interests. The results will be presented on a live dashboard once data collection is complete.
2. Once the results are shown, the audience will be engaged in order to hear their thoughts. This portion will likely take 30-40 minutes.
3. There will then be a presentation on the collaboration with Kirsten and Ei Amplified. This presentation will discuss how Kirsten’s students used Ei Amplified tools to engage their online classroom as well as how this has been used when engaging with adult learners (primarily in higher education) in online environments. This component of the presentation will be 20-30 minutes.
4. The audience will then engage Ei Amplified co-pilot for 30 minutes to get them to help interpret the data.
5. Upon completion of the interpretation, there will be a wrap-up engagement that will ask for feedback on the session, thoughts on ISTE and the future of education within their school board (30-40 minutes).

Supporting research

Studies have shown that by incorporating data analytics in instruction, we see a 74% improvement in student engagement, 25% improvement in student retention, 10% increase in students in top grade range and 6% improvement in academic outcome (Lu, 2016; Sonderlund, 2018). Substantial barriers exist preventing teachers from using data. U.S. national center of education statistics found 76% of schools cited access to training and support as barriers to adopting technology, while 34% cite it as a substantial challenge (Gray, 2021). Against the insufficient resources, educators are not being prepared for digital technology. A study of 4883 teachers found an average digital competency of “low intermediate” while only 1.7% reaching “high level” (Sanchez-Cruzado, 2021). Educators deal with their day-to-day classroom activities, after school programs, professional development and marking making it difficult for them to be prepared for the rapid advances in technology taking place. For the few teachers with competencies to use digital tools; few of them have the spare time for the extraordinarily complex softwares today (Ghavifekr, 2016). Review found the median teacher burnout rate at 39.5%, while 67% of teachers feel stressed out (Agyapong, 2022). A study of 4883 teachers found an average digital competency of “low intermediate” while only 1.7% reaching “high level” (Sanchez-Cruzado, 2021). Researchers also found that educators struggle with comprehending and interpreting data (Filderman, 2022; Espin, 2017). Meanwhile most digital tools dealing with data in education require programming skills, complex graphic user interface and constant switching between platforms (Slater, 2016). Ei Amplified has successfully created a SaaS platform that provides the users all the steps in the data cycle with less than 10 clicks. Their platform leverages large language models to understand the sentiments of students and utilize a co-pilot as an assistant to data interpretation. The platform is currently being piloted to measure and user feedback will be collected.
