The purpose of this session is to introduce participants to the concept of room transformations and to provide them with the knowledge and skills they need to design and implement their own room transformations in their computer science classrooms.
Objectives
Define a room transformation and explain its benefits for computer science students.
Identify a variety of themes and activities that can be used to create a room transformation.
Understand how to design and implement a room transformation in their own computer science classroom and reflect on its effectiveness.
5 minutes: Introduction: What is a room transformation?
Why are room transformations beneficial for computer science students?
10 minutes: Planning and implementing a room transformation
10 minutes: Examples of Computer Science Transformations (Hackathon, Cosmic Games with Robots, Spy Kids, Video Game Design Workshop, Bot Shop)
5 minutes: Conclusion, Tips for Success, Attendee brainstorm, Q&A
I will provide video and image examples in a slide deck and images and content highlights on the bulletin board for my poster session. I will provide attendees with resources in a Wakelet and have hands-on robot activities available. I will engage in discussion and Q&A with attendees and encourage them to add ideas to our FigJam brainstorm.
