Purpose & objective

In our fast-paced world, delivering effective professional development for educators is challenging. Traditional models of coaching often struggle to keep up with the demands of our digital times. We will discuss new and revolutionary ways to deliver professional development using social media platforms in concise and impactful videos and posts.

Micro-coaching on social media allows coaches and technology leaders to reach a wide audience of educators. Additionally, it provides voice, choice, and accessibility to educators in many different situations. We want to support coaches in leveraging technology to give educators more access to best teaching practices and professional development. Micro-coaching is a new and exciting way to engage educators in developing their skills.

Micro-coaching is an elevated way to use social media beyond entertainment and connection. It allows coaches to tap into a platform that educators frequently use outside of the classroom. Bite-size reels and posts are an unassuming and approachable way to encourage educators to improve their practice and engage in the coaching process.

As coaches continue to search for new ways to connect with educators and build their capacity, social media can be another tool in their toolbox to deliver professional development. The benefit of using this platform is that it takes minimal time, and can reach a wide audience continuously after posts are created. Because of the wide use of social media on a personal level, coaches can easily use those skills and plug-in their coaching to their already developed social media skills. We will provide a step-by-step guide to creating a social media coaching platform for coaches and tech leaders to implement.
We have built a social media coaching platform that reaches educators throughout our district and beyond. We deliver meaningful micro-coaching sessions to thousands of educators. Our posts are shared widely and are a resource for technology use in the classroom connected to ISTE standards. We are confident that with our experience and knowledge, we can provide guidance and inspiration to other coaches and tech leaders.

Bite-size reels and posts are an unassuming and approachable way to encourage educators to improve their practice and engage in the coaching process. This session will provide an innovative way to connect educators and coaches using current social media trends. Coaches will leave this session with tools in hand to create a micro-coaching social media platform curated for their educators needs. This session will empower coaches and tech leaders to leverage social media to go beyond entertainment, and provides short bursts of professional development that resonates with time-strapped teachers.

Participants will understand the value of micro-coaching using social media by discussing challenges to educators and coaches in the current education climate.
Participants will establish a targeted vision, mission, and audience for their micro-coaching platform that will guide content being shared.
Participants will view examples of micro-coaching content to identify effective social media engagement strategies.
Participants will be given the “Secret Sauce” of getting views and followers on their micro-coaching platforms.
Participants will be able to implement their own micro-coaching sessions via the social media platform of their choosing.

Templates and a pacing guide will be provided for participants to establish their own micro-coaching platform. They will be scaffolded by the presenters during the session.
