Newbury Elementary School
Laurie Williams has been the librarian and technology integrationist at Newbury Elementary School in Newbury, VT for 12 years. Ms. Williams came to education with a variety of experiences, including community education, public relations, graphic design and technical writing. She is an ISTE Certified Educator and was recently named Vermont's Outstanding School Librarian for 2024.

Session description

BreakoutEdu, GooseChase, FlipGrid, Kahoot, Word Clouds, and even the Amazing Race were incorporated into Library Boot Camp! Designed to foster student independence and their understanding of library organization, each class combined exploration, play, and accountability. As one NES 5th grader said: “Awesome! It’s like we had PE in Library!”

Purpose & objective

Participants will be introduced to a variety of tech tools with which to introduce their school library to their students. The tools are collaborative, interactive, and also lend themselves to future library class use.

Suggestions for outcomes include: increased non-fiction use, increased catalog use, student browsing success.
