The purpose of this experiential opportunity is two-fold. Participants will get to experience a number of landmarks in Denver while also learning about the power of the experiential learning model and cooperative learning model. Participants will get the opportunity to experience an entire interactive scavenger hunt that calls on multiple free EdTech resources including QR codes, Google Forms, Padlet, and Flipgrid. By experiencing a scavenger hunt like this, they will see the possibilities and opportunities for using these tools to create their own scavenger hunt in any subject. Meghan has implemented interactive scavenger hunts like these in her Global Studies classroom and seen an increase in student engagement and student understanding.
After a brief introduction by Meghan and Laura at the Convention Center, participants will walk around downtown Denver in groups using their smart phones to scan QR codes. Once scanned, they will be taken to various websites and Google forms to learn about their surroundings and complete challenges. Once each challenge is completed, they will be directed to the next location to continue the scavenger hunt. The goal of using these tools is for participants to see how they can create similar experiences for their students, no matter the budget or technology tools available to them.
