Gladys serves as the District Professional Development Facilitator for Cumberland County Schools in Fayetteville, NC. With a commitment to revolutionizing teaching and learning, she focuses on innovation, creativity, and impactful educational experiences. Over her 21-year career, Gladys has served as a history teacher, school and attendance district Teacher of the Year, consultant for gifted learners, social studies curriculum development team member, and cross-curricular instructional coach. Gladys collaborates and guides educators in adopting effective teaching and engagement strategies, EdTech, and innovative mindsets. Her work extends beyond her district, sharing her insights and resources at state and national initiatives and conferences.

Session description

Participants will define equity and take a deep dive into the four dimensions of equity that move beyond the concept of equity of access. You'll examine components of learner variability to build profiles and have the opportunity to design and create using principles of UDL and tech tools.

Purpose & objective

Have you ever wondered how to turn the unique struggles of your students into stepping stones for their success? This workshop is to empower educators with the knowledge and skills they need to create inclusive and equitable learning environments that cater to the diverse needs of all students. By exploring the intersection of equity, technology, and Universal Design for Learning (UDL), participants will gain practical tools and strategies to revolutionize their teaching and improve student success.

Objectives and Participant Outcomes:

Gain a solid understanding of equity principles and dimensions in education

Identify learner variability within their classrooms/schools and develop tailored approaches to support individualized learning

Develop personalized learning plans for students (Educators) and/or teachers (Coaches, Education Leaders)

Gain practical strategies and tools for implementing UDL principles in their teaching to design more inclusive and accommodating learning opportunities

Leverage technology effectively to support diverse learners.

By the end of this workshop, participants will have the skills and resources to create a more inclusive, equitable, and engaging learning experience for all students, ensuring that every learner can excel to their full potential.
