Steve Dembo is the Director of Digital Innovation and mmiddle school Computer Science Teacher at Western Springs District 101 in Illinois. He is the co-author of the book Untangling the Web: 20 Tools to Power Up Your Teaching and the president of the Skokie/Morton Grove District 69 School Board, serving his third term. Dembo is a dynamic speaker on the capabilities of social networking, the power of educational technologies and the potential for digital content to empower teachers to improve student outcomes.

Session description

As AI has become a popular buzzword, how do we discern genuine from gimmick? Drawing from four years of hands-on experience teaching AI, we will explore AI's true potential and practical integration strategies. We'll dive deep into evaluating AI tools, avoiding pitfalls, and practical ideas for implementation.

Purpose & objective

The session aims to empower educators with genuine knowledge about AI in education. By the end, attendees will:

Differentiate between genuine AI tools and superficial solutions.
Understand the fundamentals of how AI works.
Implement practical strategies for integrating AI into the curriculum.
