Carolyn Daly has been working for an educational technology company in San Diego, called Tech4Learning for over 20 years. She has conducted hundreds of presentations at local and state-wide conferences and writes articles for the online Creative Educator magazine. Before working for Tech4Learning, Carolyn taught for 4 years as a bilingual educator in California, in addition to 2 years in schools in Costa Rica and Guatemala. She holds a Master’s of Education in Literacy from California State San Marcos, CA where she conducted her final thesis project on the impact of constructivist technology tools on second language learner’s writing.

Monica Winkler is the STEM coordinator for Bellview Elementary in the Cherry Creek Schools. Monica received Specialist in Education in Educational Leadership and is entering her 17th year in the teaching profession. Monica has taught both in the elementary classroom and has been in her current role as a STEM/Technology Teacher for grades K-5 for the past nine years. She works to meaningfully integrate communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity skills in her instruction on a daily basis while working with educational technology tools that enhance students’ learning. Monica regularly presents her STEM work at district and state meetings.

Session description

Explore where art and animations become powerful tools to captivate and empower young learners to become authors, designers, and content creators. Participants will walk away with resources and tried and true cross-curricular ideas for incorporating animation projects into their curriculum.

Purpose & objective

Participants will be informed on WHY it is important to integrate the arts and animation into elementary subject areas and what research says about it.

Digital projects will be shown and deconstructed to show how easy, effective and meaningful this type of project work can be. Everyone in the audience will walk away with a deeper understanding of the why, the process, and the incredible learning benefits and motivation this type of project work has on ALL of our unique learners.

They will also leave the session with practical ideas, information on accessible and easy tools, and lesson plans for integrating this highly motivating and engaging type of project work in their K-5 classroom.
