Library Media Specialist for Lakeland Union High School. A firm believer that today's library is not just a location nor is the librarian just another staff member, the library fills a specialized role that provides resources available both in and outside of the school walls and the school day, cultivating a culture of literacy. Developing critical thinkers; challenged to think creatively and solve problems in MakerSpace. PBS Certified Media Literacy Educator, Future Ready Librarian and Google Certification. Wisconsin Teacher of the Year in 2023, received the Wisconsin Media and Technology Association's Forward Award (2023) and the Excellence Award (2020).

Sara Gold is a librarian and new business coordinator for WiLS, a non-profit library service organization that facilitates collaborative projects and services to save members time and money. She serves as a project manager for the Wisconsin Schools Digital Library Consortium (WSDLC), and the Wisconsin Public Library Consortium (WPLC), both of which are digital collections that serve k12 public and private districts and Wisconsin public library patrons, respectively. Sara is passionate about advocating for better lending terms from publishers and affordable, accessible digital materials and the freedom to read for all.

Session description

The Wisconsin Schools Digital Library Consortium is a self-sustaining member funded digital library of ebooks, audiobooks, magazines and comics that serves over 365,000 school age students at the affordable cost of $1.65 per student. Learn how to replicate this model in your state from the ground up.

Outline

The session will be presented as an interactive slide show by two of the founding members of consortium. They will include 10 minutes of background and history followed by 15 minutes on the governance structure. 10 minutes on the RFP and set up followed by 15 minutes for the launch date till present including qualitative and quantitative data regarding usage. 10 minutes for closing and questions will round out the session
