Session description

Extend information literacy to include AI and bring AI into your library and school. This session will focus on how librarians can transform their instruction to include AI evaluation, prompt generation, instruction strategies and more. Lead the way into the latest information age with AI.

Purpose & objective

AI use is increasing exponentially, however, according to the US Department of Educational Technology, there's a less than 15% awareness of AI in educators. An informal survey of summer students at a local university revealed that nearly 90% of students were using AI. It is critical that educators learn how to safely integrate AI into their instruction. Librarians are a natural fit, since AI slides into information literacy instruction very naturally. Librarians have been teaching how to search for and evaluate information and now incorporating how to write prompts and evaluate AI generated information can be included. Librarians work across all content areas and have the ability to collaborate with educators to help build their confidence in this area.
This session will support librarians as they learn about AI, how AI fits into information literacy and resources to support integration in their school and library.
