The Twelve Elements of Student Engagement and Ownership will give the participants examples of how to deploy differentiated learning opportunities to every level of learner through a five-step process. Throughout the workshop, the participants will explore different activities that can help to design and generate high-yield results from data to engagement. Throughout the workshop, the participants will be able to:
Define elements of student ownership and engagement.
Explore examples of differentiated instruction and small group instruction in the K-12 classroom.
Collaborate with other participants to deepen their knowledge about data-driven small groups.
Generate a game plan for deploying small groups through the five-step learning process.
Apply artificial intelligence resources to help create differentiated small groups for all levels of learners.
Apply various open-ended questions to allow for higher levels of student discourse.
The Twelve Elements of Student Engagement and Ownership workshop will be set up to mimic a studio learning environment. Participants will be expected to set learning targets, create a learning plan with the time spent at each learning studio, learn from each other, and make global connections. The outline overview is just an example of what one participant might plan for their Sample 60-minute workshop.
08 min - Whole group introduction and understanding of the power of student engagement vs. compliance
05 min - Group collaboration activity, sharing experience with small group learning environments
15 min - Deeper dive into the formative, summative, and exit ticket data that will help to drive the small group instruction
05 min - Exploration of the small group learning deployment plan
10 min - Group collaboration activity with the exploration of the learning studio checklist, examples of small group learning goal forms, and guide templates
10 min - Whole group reflection of small group instruction learning in the K-12 classroom. As a group, we will discuss how to deploy the deployment plans into the classroom and make the next steps for their personalized learning environments.
